Refurbished Laptops and the Circular Economy
Everyone's heard the old adage, 'reduce, reuse, recycle'.
But at Community Laptops, we take it a step further - we operate using the circular economy model.
The circular economy is a model of product and consumption that involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling existing materials and products for as long as possible. In a circular economy, the lifecycle of products is extended - products that would ordinarily be thrown out are refurbished and resold for reuse or striped down for their recyclable and reusable materials which can then be put back into the supply chain for reuse.
These resources and materials can be used again and again, creating more value.
Extending the lifecycle of existing products reduces the number of base resources consumed, and new products manufactured - reducing waste across every aspect of a product's lifecycle, from manufacture to retirement.
Our refurbished laptops form a key part of our sustainability strategy - the more we reuse existing laptops, the less e-waste ends up in landfill.
It's pretty simple.
Our parent company, WV Technologies, receives in retired IT assets from Australia's big corporations and government departments and carefully assesses what needs to be destroyed, recycled, or sanitized. From there, the devices that don't need to be destroyed for security reasons and the ones in good enough condition to be resold, are sent to Community Laptops where our refurbishing team expertly refurbishes the devices and packages them up to be resold.
E-waste is a growing problem in Australia, with over 500,000 tons of it created last year alone.
But by taking good, working laptops and refurbishing them for resale to you, we're able to keep more existing technology in circulation, rather than sending it to landfills.
And those laptops that aren't in good enough shape to be refurbished?
WV Tech handles those too. Through their resource recovery team, they're able to break down these old devices and recover valuable, reusable resources like gold, silver, and copper. 99% of material that passes through WV Tech facilities is recycled, reused, or refurbished.
So you're not just getting the best price around when you buy our laptops, you're also helping the environment.
